Who is Madhav Tiwari? ‘I’m 100% Batter and 100% Bowler’ DC’s New Hero Shocks PBKS in Thriller

Delhi Capitals could finally have a new match-winner in the form of young all-rounder Madhav Tiwari. The 22-year-old made a commendable effort while playing a brilliant game against the Punjab Kings in the IPL 2026, taking the Delhi Capitals to the playoffs.

In his debut official T20 senior test, Tiwari was impressive with the bat and ball in Dharamsala’s high-scoring encounter. His performance was round in round; thus, he received his first ‘IPL Player-of-the-Match’ and became one of the highlights of the tournament among cricket ID fans following IPL 2026 closely.

In an all-out chase, it was a massive 211-run target that had to be chased, and the result came with a three-wicket victory with one over to spare. It was also the highest successful T20 chase at Dharamsala.

Madhav Tiwari Delivers with Ball and Bat

It was the first time that Tiwari had made an impression with the ball, and the pitch wasn’t hostile for the fast bowlers, either. The extra seam movement and the surface bounce resulted in all 39 overs being bowled with pacers in the game.

Considering the fact that he was only introduced as the fifth bowler, Tiwari made a brilliant catch to dismiss Priyansh Arya of PBKS in the first over, off just 33 balls, and on 56. He then was able to remove Cooper Connolly with a neat, slower bouncer later in the game.

Overall, he claimed 2 wickets for 40 runs in 4 overs. In a post-match interview, Tiwari gave an idea of his bowling strategy.

I think the wicket was helping the length ball, so I was a bit sticking to that in the beginning, and I was trying to mix in wide balls and short balls in between as well, said Stewart.

His days of work were not done, however. In the chase, Tiwari walked in at No.8 and produced a fearless, unbeaten knock of 18 runs from just eight balls. His quick cameo included two fours and a six and proved crucial in helping DC cross the finish line in a tense chase.

“I’m 100% Bowler and 100% Batter.”

Following the game, Tiwari said he was a ‘complete all-rounder’. With a smile, he said, “I’d like to say I’m 100% bowler, and I’m 100% batsman.” The youngster also shared how he got better as a player before the season with the coaching staff of DC.

He took a lot of time in the gym with bowling coach Munaf Patel and power-hit coach Ian Bell, Tiwari said, while adding that he has been assisted in his fielding by his captain and coach.

“So, the mindset is always that if things are not in your hands, you just try to be better in each and every practice session. I was working a lot with Munaf sir on my bowling and had worked on my range-hitting with our batting coach,” Tiwari said.

He also shared the simple words spoken by Ian Bell just before he went out to bat. He said, ‘You have got the power, you’ve got everything, just don’t try to do something fancy, hold your shape and react to the ball.

Who is Madhav Tiwari?

Madhav Tiwari is an all-rounder bowler from Madhya Pradesh who bowls at a fast pace. Despite not having made his debut for the senior domestic team, he made a huge impression on the selectors in age cricket and the Madhya Pradesh T20 League.

He has been a part of the U-19 and U-23 teams at the state level for Madhya Pradesh and has played for Bhopal Leopards in the MP T20 League.

He had his best action in the semi-final of the state T20 league, tearing up 65 runs off 31 balls against Rewa Jaguars to take his team to the finals. He was a player with all-round abilities, which caught the eye of the Delhi Capitals during the IPL mega auction, who picked him for Rs 40 lakh.

A Strange IPL Start

What’s interesting, though, is that Tiwari’s IPL career has been quite unusual. He also played his first game for DC against the Punjab Kings last year in Dharamsala. But the game was abandoned halfway due to the cross-border tension between India and Pakistan.

In that match, Tiwari bowled just one over and conceded 14 runs. Later on, when the match was replayed, he was not part of the squad. He also made his debut with the Mumbai Indians, scoring 3 runs before he was caught by Jasprit Bumrah.

Yesterday, the youngster made his debut on the big screen with a fantastic all-round performance – and that’s exactly what he did again, one year later.

Shreyas Iyer Blames Bowling and Fielding

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was honest after the defeat, saying that poor bowling and fielding were a major setback for his side. PBKS committed two drop catches in the game, and have the most this season with 19 drop catches.

I would have somebody who would tell me straight out, “This is not right.” After the loss, Iyer admitted that he would want to switch his roles from fielding and bowling. He believed the score of 210 for 5 by PBKS was too many for the ball to aid the pace bowlers on the pitch.

Iyer was also asked why veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal did not bowl even a single over during the target defense. He said there was “absolutely” some thought, but pace bowlers would be more effective if they could do the plans properly if the ball is seaming and helping the seamers.

Madhav Tiwari, however, was an evening for the youngster as he is the player who feels he is “100% batter and 100% bowler” and may have just provided the balance that Delhi Capitals were looking for throughout the season.
